Good News Hagerstown (GNH) is a committed nonprofit organization focused on uplifting low-income families and individuals in Hagerstown through practical, impactful community support. Our work directly addresses the needs of our community with a variety of ongoing and planned initiatives.
We provide vital after-school snacks and meals to food-insecure children, ensuring that no child goes hungry outside of school hours. Our anti-bullying campaign distributes name-brand hoodies and shoes to low-income children, promoting inclusion and self-esteem.
Our beautification efforts extend beyond our doors to other churches and neighborhoods, enhancing the aesthetic and environmental quality of local areas. This August, we are excited to partner with Hub City Vineyard for their backpack giveaway, where we will give over 1,200 low-income children free name-brand shoes, further supporting their educational journey.
Additionally, GNH is committed to environmental education and responsibility through new initiatives that teach children about planting flowers, bee pollination, and the joys of outdoor activities.
We also address specific needs by providing culturally diverse hair products to low-income girls and supplying seniors in local nursing homes with essential items like dry shampoo and flowers to improve their quality of life.
Join us as we continue to nurture dreams and change destinies in Hagerstown, fostering a supportive, vibrant, and inclusive community. Your support helps us expand these essential services and launch new initiatives to meet the evolving needs of our residents.
Neighborhood Beautification & Intergenerational Programs
Our Neighborhood Beautification initiative is focused on transforming low-income areas into vibrant, welcoming, and green community spaces. Building on last year’s work—where we revitalized spaces like Hub City Vineyard with thousands of flowers and shrubs—we are expanding our impact in a powerful new way.
This year, we are launching intergenerational beautification programs, bringing together children, families, and older adults to plant, design, and care for gardens throughout the community. From pollinator gardens to hands-on planting classes, participants learn about nature, sustainability, and teamwork while creating something meaningful together.
These shared experiences build connection across generations, teach responsibility, and give participants a sense of ownership and pride in their neighborhoods. More than just planting flowers, we are creating spaces that promote mental wellness, community engagement, and long-term environmental stewardship.
Together, we are cultivating a greener, healthier, and more connected Hagerstown—one garden at a time.
